I was always looking for the secret. And, I pretty much found it. In the last five years, we have learned so much about the brain. And the good news is that you can train it; just like you can train a muscle.

This beautiful quote from Gandhi sums it up...

“Your beliefs become your thoughts,

Your thoughts become your words,

Your words become your actions,

Your actions become your habits,

Your habits become your values,

Your values become your destiny.”

So, if we want to change our destiny, we will need to change our thoughts.

This morning in my Body Back class, we got to talking about will power. I find my clients often beat themselves up for not having enough of it. But before you criticize yourself, do you understand how to maximize it? I love how the book The One Thing describes willpower like a tank of gas. If you keep using it up, you will run out. The faster you go, the faster you use up the tank. Every time you make a decision, you use up your fuel. This is why you usually lose your will power by the end of the day.

Stress and willpower don’t mix. That’s probably why you feel it’s so low. People are so stressed out! If you want more will power, you need to find ways...

“Lisa, Clean up your room.” I remember my mom saying this to me when I was a kid. I remember thinking it would be so much easier if there were like a custom space where each toy went. But there wasn't. So I piled things away and shoved them in drawers until my room was seemingly neat. Ah, much like my daughter does now. Keeping tidy has always been a chore for me but I love it so much when it’s neat and tidy.

If you visit my house, you might be surprised to know that tidying doesn’t come naturally to me. My home is quite neat; most of the time. And that’s because I have learned the importance of loving where you live. I have realized that you don’t need a fancy house to love your space. And that’s what we are going to talk about on today’s episode of Motivating Mom.

First off, everyone loves a neat home. I’m not saying that everyone is neat, but everyone loves when things are tidy. But the funny thing is that none of us are ever taught the right way to tidy. I have had the opportunity to train thousands of women over the course of my career. I’ve gotten people to change their exercise habits and their nutrition habits but rarely have I been able to create this new habit. I so get it. The idea of sitting and doing nothing when you have so much to do is absolutely, well it’s just crazy. And for most of us, sitting quietly doing nothing when there is so much to do (and probably chaos around us) is anything but relaxing.
