Happy Memorial Day! This holiday weekend, we got to know a dedicated and inspiring stay-at-home mom, Caroline. You can read her story below and be sure to share your words of encouragement in the comments!
**Tell us about yourself**
I have a fantastic husband, Scott, and we have two sweet little girls, ages 3 and 9 months. I feel very lucky to be at home with my little ladies; especially because my husband works long hours and travels. Before I was at home, I was an elementary school teacher.
**What motivated you to make a change?**
After my second daughter was born, I basically gave myself 5 months. I worked out when I had the energy and could get it into the schedule. I regained a normal sleep schedule. I got to know our new baby and helped everyone find their place in our family. After five months, I knew I had given myself enough time, and could commit to making healthy changes.
**What are you doing to get/stay so healthy!?**
I just finished my second session of Body Back. Since I started, I've lost 25 lbs and countless inches. I've completely changed my eating habits. I used to (I cringe at this term) graze. I would snack all day and not even realize what or how much of it I was eating. Now I write down what I eat and I allow myself to have actual meals! I sit at a table with a real plate, silverware, a napkin - the whole deal! It sounds ridiculous, but I let myself have my own meal instead of calling a handful of cheerios and 2 bites of cold sausage that my daughter didn't want breakfast. I also workout 5 days a week. I include Body Back Boost each week because it is such a challenging workout. It is how I gauge myself on my fitness. If Boost feels too hard one week, I need to step up my workouts during the week more.
**It can be SO HARD to find “me” time when you are taking care of your family, how were you able to make these healthy changes and stick to them while still doing all of you other day to day duties?**
When I started Body Back, I remember feeling like there was nothing more important that I could do for myself or my family than become healthier. With that in mind, I planned out workouts each week and figured out coverage for the kids. We ended up getting a babysitter every Wednesday, which eased stress for both my husband and me.
**How do you feel now? How has this changed your life?**
I feel like I can't believe I have made this much of a change in just a few months! I was ok with myself before and felt "good enough." Four months later, I feel like a new person. I've had to buy all new clothes, which is very fun! More importantly, I feel like I am a really good healthy role model for my girls. Most importantly, I feel SO proud. Being a stay-at-home mom, I realized it had been so long since I felt proud of myself. I'm proud of my 3-year-old for making it all the way around the block on her scooter. I'm proud of my 9 month old when she starts rocking on her hands and knees, about to lunge into a crawl. I'm proud of my husband for doing well in his new position at work. I've worked really hard and now I remember what it feels like to be proud of me. I'm stronger, happier, and more confident. I can do 25 pushups in a minute! This feels so great and that is my motivation to continue. I deserve to feel this great all the time.
**What advice do you have for other moms who want to get healthy?**
-Be ready to make changes. I knew I was ready when I was getting sleep and things had settled at home.
-Be prepared to dislike some of the changes you have to make and get over it.
-Plan-workouts and meals.
-Remember how important you are!
