Hi Moms! Meet Shanna. Shanna is a gorgeous mama from Las Vegas. I actually "met" Shanna through our FIT4MOM FIT4FALL challenge on Instagram. There was something about her and her posts that caught my attention. This mama was going to achieve her goals, I just could feel it. When she posted about FIT4MOM (Body Back to be specific), you could tell that she was committed and that this program was changing her life. Thank you, Shanna for sharing your story with us, you are an insparation!
**Tell us about yourself**
I am 28 years old and a stay at home mom. My son just turned one and is my currently my only child. When my son was three months old I was meeting a friend at the Town Square location in Las Vegas and saw a group of moms with their kids playing at the park. As I was googling what this group could be, so that I could see if it was something I’d like to join, I almost ran in to the Fit4Mom sign! I like the think it was fate bringing me to this wonderful organization.
**You look amazing, tell us about your fitness journey.**
I have been heavy pretty much my whole life and have battled with continuously working out. I joined Fit4Mom in June 2013 and have been working out 3-4 days a week since then. The first session of Body Back I lost 19 pounds and 10 inches! To date I have lost 45 pounds working out with Fit4Mom.
**What motivated you to make a change?**
After my son was born I wanted to be healthy and happy for both of us. I had lost 30 pounds for my wedding and got pregnant shortly after so I wanted to get back to feeling better about myself.
**Here is the question our moms are dying to know the answer to: What are you doing to get/stay so healthy!?**
I just completed by second Body Back session and one mini session over the holidays. I was very hesitant to try Body Back since I’ve done almost every other weight loss system. What I love about Body Back is the camaraderie that each group of women has. I probably would’ve quit if it weren’t for the fellow moms encouraging me and us all helping each other. After the first session, a few of us continued on and were the ones encouraging new moms and showing them they can lose the weight, which I love.
The biggest thing I learned, which seems so simple, was healthy eating. There were a few times I indulged during the sessions and I realized that my diet is so important in losing weight and keeping it off.
**It can be SO HARD to find “me” time when you are taking care of your family, how were you able to make these healthy changes and stick to them while still doing all of you other day to day duties?**
The Body Back classes in Las Vegas are held at 5:45 am so my son was still asleep while I got this workout in. Otherwise, I attended Stroller Strides classes or took my son on a walk to the park. I try not to be hard on myself if I can’t get a full workout in and just do some sit-ups while he is playing or squats at night while I watch TV. Every little bit adds up!
**How do feel now? How has this changed your life?**
I feel incredible, happy, and more confident that I can keep up a healthy lifestyle. I will be a bridesmaid in a wedding this month and my dress is two sizes smaller than when I started Fit4Mom.
**What are you most proud of?**
I am proud that I decided to do something for me and prove I can lose the weight. Feeling good about yourself changes your entire outlook on life and for that I am forever grateful to Jessica Peralta, who was also our Body Back instructor. My happiest moment was stepping on the scale and seeing that I had lost 40 pounds at the end of the last Body Back session.
**What advice do you have for other moms who want to get healthy?**
My advice for other moms who want to make a change and get healthy is to commit to a fitness program. Try a Body Back session; it really sets you up for success teaching moms how to make permanent changes. Create a food journal and really look at what you’re eating. Swap out sugary snack for veggies and see the difference it makes. Find someone to go on a fitness journey with so you have accountability but more importantly encouragement.
