Motivating Mom: Driven Mom Sara

Meet our Motivating Mom, Sara! After picking up and moving her life, this momma made the best of her change in circumstance by joining FIT4MOM and choosing to live a happier life. This is how Sara found her tribe.

**Tell us about yourself**

Hello! My name is Sara, I am a 28 year old mother of one. I am lucky enough to be the mother to my amazing daughter Chloe, who is already 1 *tear*. I am currently a stay at home mother, after I gave up my extraordinary position at Lowe’s, here in Yuma, AZ. My husband of almost 4 fantastic years moved us to Yuma, AZ just after he asked me to marry him, (sigh, the good ol’ days!) We relocated from Sierra Vista, AZ, leaving behind everything we ever knew!

**What motivated you to make a change?**

After arriving in Yuma, I hated it, UGH! The weather is crazy hot, turn on your oven, stick your face in, HOT. After the birth of our daughter, I begged people on Facebook to help connect me to the best group of mommas, I did not want to hate Yuma any longer, I knew it was a choice that I had made to be unhappy and I would not, could not, do that any longer, I needed positive! After I posted that cry for a positive group of mommas, my help came in, by the boat loads. I had found it, the best thing for me, my daughter, our family, Stroller Strides!! Never will I look back and regret making that change in my life, our lives.

**What are you doing to get/stay so healthy!?**

My diet is a constant battle, I think it is the last piece to the life changing puzzle. I have a love affair with chocolate, any kind, I’m not picky. So trying to stay on track with a healthy lifestyle always includes some chocolate. I had no excuses to not be healthy, Yuma is surrounded by fields and fields of crops, fresh and right here. It only took me some time to fully engage in the focused eating, which still takes a hit, but it’s ok, really and truly it is. If you fall off the wagon, dust off your pants and jump back on.

**It can be SO HARD to find “me” time when you are taking care of your family, how were you able to make these healthy changes and stick to them while still doing all of you other day to day duties?**

"Me time," what on earth is that?! Ha! Motherhood changed me in the respect that I wanted to do better, it was not just about or for me anymore, it was now about us, all three of us. I had to show my daughter how to eat right, feel amazing about herself, and love her body. We all know society will not do that for our kiddos. That is why Stroller Strides was the first step toward my healthy lifestyle, going to class Monday thru Friday with my daughter in tow. Singing, teaching, learning, engaging, and shaping her life kept me motivated to these healthy changes and to strive for more.

**How do you feel now? How has this changed your life?**

Stroller Strides and Fit4Mom saved my life, our lives!! No lies, no jokes, pure sweet and simple I feel saved, from insanity. Motherhood is so rewarding but extremely taxing, especially when you have no one other than your tiny three person family. I gained much more than I ever expected that first day I showed up to class, and yes ladies, I had my BUTT KICKED! My instructor could not have been more motivating as she watched me try my hardest to keep up, all of the mommas were so motivating and encouraging. That day, I found my momma tribe. Later, I would find my momma village within FIT4MOM, the websites, blogs, partners, and so many other mommas, just like me, helping me to stay on track, like a huge team of cheerleaders, “GO MOMMIES GO!!”

**What advice do you have for other moms who want to get healthy?**

Do not ever give up, no excuse is worth the feeling of failure. Start small, and try new things until you find what works for you, and your family. Do not let other people make you feel as though your choices are not great ones. Never ever stop trying, tomorrow is always another day, yet today is your only chance to make good healthy choices that will forever impact your life, your family’s lives. Finally, NEVER give up on yourself, once you do, everyone and everything around you seems like it gave it too, and you become sucked into a dark place. If you fall off that wagon… dust your pants off and jump back on, I said JUMP mommas, do it today, do it NOW!!
