How To Start Meditating

It's no secret that I am a huge fan of meditation. I have done a podcast on it and I've mentioned it in many blog posts. I have received numerous requests for me to record some meditations. I hear you. I will at some point. But do you know that there are super great, easy apps that can guide you through your meditation? I will list them here so you can give it a try!

OMG I Can Meditate - This free, simple app can teach you in 10 minutes a day how to meditate. The guide gives you clear examples and practical tips to get you started. They even have special programs for sleep, kids and family.

Calm - Relax with calm. This free website and app will help bring peace and clarity in your day. You can choose your setting and your sound. You can choose a silent or guided meditation and set your time. I have been an avid user of calm for years!

Head Space - This is a great one, especially if you are a guy and don't like the new age kind of vibe. The guide is a guy with a really cool accent. Just a regular guy teaching you how to meditate in just 10 minutes a day. Cute animations and very easy to use!

Insight Timer - I have the least experience with this one but it is so unique that I must share. Insight Timer has communities of people meditating world wide. You can choose from thousands of guided meditations. On any given day Insight Timer users collectively meditate for approximately 1,000,000 minutes.

So, no excuses. Any of these apps can tell you the science of why you want to meditate. But I will list a handful of reasons to get you to yes..

- Meditation reduces stress, anxiety, depression, headaches, insomnia and blood pressure.

- Mediation increases happiness, optimism, self esteem, immune system and actually strengthens the brain.

Meditation is a practice. You don't just "get it". It's also not about being perfect and not about having no thoughts. It's about quieting your mind and giving your thoughts a little space between. I hope you join me!
