Hey, Mom...Declutter to De-Stress!

Being a mom is stressful, but there is one simple thing we can all do (besides working out ) to reduce our stress today... a bit of spring cleaning and DECLUTTERING!!

Living inside of a messy, disorganized space can make your life feel a little out of control. A couple of times a year we all need to evaluate our space and get rid of the things our family no longer needs.

Purging can be especially hard when you're a mom. Not only do we have emotional attachments to many things, but our kids do as well. Before you know it you might be holding onto every baby outfit and toy because they bring back such sweet memories. But you will drown in the clutter.

Come on – it's time to get rid of a few things and feel good about it because your'e either helping other families with your donations or making a few bucks for your family while making your living space a lot neater and cleaner!

Tip #1 – Be willing to purge; set some time aside, put on some fun music and get ready to be real. You haven't worn or used it in years? – get rid of it.

Tip #2 – It will be easier to purge some of your kids' things if they are not around to watch. UNLESS you can convince them that they can get 1 new toy for every 4 they giveaway or sell. I let my kids keep the money they earn from the things we sell on Close5 and they just apply it to other games and toys they want.

Tip #3 – find a way to organize and store the things you choose to keep. Here are some of the things I do ...

· Get Legos off the floor and easy to store with storage bags like this one by Swoop: http://www.swoopbags.com/

· Store board games in 2-gallon zip lock bags because boxes get crushed and take up more room than necessary.

· Get a storage ottoman to serve as both a coffee table and a place to stash books and toys

· I love to frame special art projects and store keepsake schoolwork in an art-folio or binder with plastic sleeves

Tip #4 – know what to do with the items you don't keep.

· Donate or sell to families living nearby with the free Close5 app

· Participate in seasonal family swap meets or consignment events

· Take advantage of free electronic waste recycling programs and free shredding programs available in your community

Be sure to check recall lists before donating or selling your outgrown baby items. Car seats, certain cribs even toys can be recalled for safety reasons and should not be shared.

Happy spring cleaning!
